How to transcribe meetings privately on your own computer

Keep meeting audio on your computer: turn on privacy optimised mode so transcripts and notes are made locally. What to expect and how to switch it on.

Last updated

Turn on privacy optimised mode and Transcript.audio makes your transcripts and notes on your own computer, so the audio never leaves it. Recordings are saved on your computer either way, and no bot joins the call.

How do I turn it on?

  1. In the setup guide, at Connect your AI, choose Privacy optimised, on this computer. Or open Settings > AI later.
  2. Under How should the AI work?, choose Privacy optimised (audio and notes stay on this computer).
  3. Let the one-off model download finish. Then click Save in the bar at the bottom of Settings.
  4. Record a call as usual. Transcripts and notes are made on your computer after it ends.

What should I expect?

  • A large one-off model download (about 1 to 5 GB).
  • Slower processing on older laptops, and more battery use while notes are written. Keep a laptop plugged in.
  • Notes a bit less polished than premium cloud models.
  • The live transcript and answers in Questions as you go run on your computer too.

Is anything ever sent off my computer?

Allow a private cloud fallback (text only) is off unless you turn it on. The details are in Privacy optimised mode, and what is stored where is in Where your data goes.

More: Private meeting transcription, Offline meeting transcription and the privacy mode page. Plans are on the pricing page.

Does the app delete anything for me?

Deleting a meeting folder (or Delete in Recent meetings) removes everything about that meeting from your computer. It cannot be undone.
