Microphone

The microphone records your side of the call, so nothing records without it. How to allow it on a Mac or Windows PC, and turn it back on if it was refused.

Last updated

The microphone records your side of the call. Without it nothing records, and the app says it is not allowed to use the microphone.

Allow the microphone

On a Mac

  1. The first time the app records, macOS asks if Transcript Audio may use the microphone. Click Allow.
  2. Missed it, or clicked Don't Allow? Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
  3. Switch on Transcript Audio.
  4. Quit the app (menu bar icon > Quit) and open it again.
IllustrationSwitch on Transcript Audio in the Microphone list.

On Windows

  1. Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone (or click Open Settings in the setup guide).
  2. Switch on Microphone access.
  3. Further down, switch on Let desktop apps access your microphone. Desktop apps have no prompt of their own, so this switch is the only thing that matters.
  4. Start a recording again.
IllustrationBoth switches must be on: Microphone access at the top, and Let desktop apps access your microphone further down.

Which microphone is used

On a Mac

The app records the input chosen in System Settings > Sound > Input. Use the same microphone as your call app.

On Windows

The app records your default input device, set in Settings > System > Sound > Input. Use the same microphone as your call app.
