System audio: the other people on the call
How Transcript Audio records the other side of the call: System Audio Recording Only on a Mac, nothing to allow on Windows.
Last updated
Everyone else on the call comes through your computer's sound output. The app records that sound on its own channel, which is how the notes can tell your words from theirs. It records sound only, not your screen.
On a Mac
macOS 14.2 and later
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Under System Audio Recording Only, switch on Transcript Audio. If it is not listed, click + and add it from Applications.
- Quit the app (menu bar icon > Quit) and open it again. The change only takes effect after a restart.
macOS 13 to 14.1
These versions have no audio-only permission, so the app needs full Screen Recording in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording. Restart the app afterwards. The purple recording indicator shows in the menu bar while it records. Updating to macOS 14.2 or later is better.
On Windows
Nothing to do. Windows lets the app record the call audio without a permission, and the setup guide shows Nothing needed.
The app records your default output device. If the call plays through a device the app cannot capture, such as some Bluetooth headsets or virtual sound cards, the other side can be missing. See No audio, or only one side.
