Privacy optimised mode
Everything runs on your computer and nothing leaves it: on-device transcription and on-device AI notes. On every plan, Free included.
What runs where
Transcript Audio has two modes. Whichever you choose, your recordings themselves are always kept on your computer.
| Item | Privacy optimised mode | Standard mode |
|---|---|---|
| Recordings | Saved on your computer. | Saved on your computer. |
| Transcription | Runs on your computer. Audio never leaves it. | Speech segments are sent, encrypted, to our AI service, transcribed by an AI provider under zero data retention, then discarded. |
| Notes and summaries | Written by an AI model running on your computer. | The transcript is sent to our AI service, summarised by an AI provider under zero data retention, then discarded. |
| Where cloud processing happens | Nowhere: nothing leaves your computer. | Processing may take place in the UK or the EU, depending on the model. |
| Transcripts and notes | Saved on your computer. | Saved on your computer. Nothing is stored by us. |
| Internet needed | No: works offline once the models are downloaded. | Yes, for transcription and notes. |
| Speed and accuracy | Slower on older machines, and on-device models are less accurate than the best cloud models. | Fast on any machine, using accurate cloud models. |
The optional zero-retention fallback
In privacy optimised mode you can choose to switch on a cloud fallback, for example if your computer is too slow to transcribe a long meeting in good time. It is off unless you switch it on. When it is used, it works like standard mode: only the speech needed is sent, it is processed under zero data retention and then discarded, and nothing is stored by us. If you leave it off, nothing leaves your computer.
Who can use it
Every plan: Free, Premium, Pro Converser, Teams. You can switch between modes at any time in the app’s settings.
Good to know
- On-device models need a one-off download and some disk space. A recent computer with 16 GB of memory gives the best results.
- Features that rely on cloud AI may be limited or slower in privacy optimised mode. Answer and note quality depend on the model that runs on your machine.
- Privacy optimised mode is about where processing happens. You are still responsible for telling people you are recording: see the recording consent guide.
How we handle standard mode
