Get the installer for your computer from the download page. Pick your system with the switch at the top of this page to see the right steps.
Install the app
On a Mac
- Download the Mac disk image (
.dmg). One file works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. - Open the downloaded file. A window shows the Transcript Audio icon and your Applications folder.
- Drag Transcript Audio onto Applications.
- Eject the disk image, then open Transcript Audio from Applications (or with Spotlight: Cmd Space, then type Transcript Audio).
On Windows
- Download the Windows installer (
Transcript-Audio-Setup-<version>-x64.exe). - Open it. It installs for your Windows account only, so it needs no administrator rights and shows no admin prompt.
- The app opens by itself when the install finishes. It also adds a desktop shortcut and a Start menu entry called Transcript Audio.
The app is installed in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\transcript-audio.
Opening it the first time
On a Mac
Transcript Audio comes from an independent developer and these first builds are not signed by Apple or Microsoft yet, so your computer asks you to confirm the app once. The download is fine.
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile and drag Transcript Audio onto Applications. - Open Transcript Audio from Applications. macOS says it cannot verify the app (on macOS 15: "Transcript Audio" Not Opened). Click Done, not Move to Bin.
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. Next to "Transcript Audio" was blocked to protect your Mac, click Open Anyway.
- Confirm with your password or Touch ID, then click Open. From now on the app opens normally.
On macOS 13 and 14 there is a shortcut: right-click (or Control-click) the app in Applications, choose Open, then click Open again. From macOS 15 Sequoia this shortcut no longer works, so use Open Anyway.

On Windows
Transcript Audio comes from an independent developer and these first builds are not signed by Apple or Microsoft yet, so your computer asks you to confirm the app once. The download is fine.
Your browser may say the file isn't commonly downloaded. Keep it: in Edge, open the ... menu on the download, choose Keep, then Show more > Keep anyway; in Chrome, choose Keep.
- Open the installer. If Windows protected your PC appears (Microsoft Defender SmartScreen), click More info.
- Check the app name says Transcript Audio, then click Run anyway.
- The app installs and opens by itself, with no administrator prompt. You only do this once for each installer file.
