Screen recording for video

Recording video of meetings needs the full Screen & System Audio Recording permission on a Mac; audio never needs it. On Windows there is no prompt.

Last updated

You only need this if you turn on Record video of the meeting in Settings > Recording. Audio never needs it.

On a Mac

  1. In the setup guide, click Allow screen recording. macOS sends you to System Settings (there is no Allow button in the dialog).
  2. In System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, switch on Transcript Audio in the main list (full access, not System Audio Recording Only).
  3. Quit and reopen the app.
IllustrationFor video, switch the app on in the upper list (full access).

The purple recording indicator shows in the menu bar while video records, and newer macOS versions ask you to confirm the permission again from time to time. Without it, the recording bar says Video is off until you allow screen recording. Audio still records.

On Windows

There is no permission and no prompt. Windows 10 draws a yellow border around the recorded window while video records; Windows 11 does not. Video needs Windows 10 version 1903 or later, and Windows "N" editions need the Media Feature Pack. Without them, audio records as normal.
