The menu bar or tray icon is missing
Find the Transcript Audio icon when the Mac menu bar is crowded or Windows hides it in the overflow area of the system tray.

On a Mac
- On a MacBook with a notch, icons can hide behind it when the menu bar is full. Quit a few other menu bar apps, or hold Cmd and drag less-used icons out of the menu bar.
- Check the app is running: open it from Applications. Opening it again shows its icon.
- If How the icon shows status is Doesn't change, the icon looks the same while recording. Pick another style in Settings > Appearance.
On Windows
- Click the small arrow (^) next to the clock to show hidden icons. Transcript Audio is often there.
- Drag its icon onto the taskbar to keep it visible.
- Or, on Windows 11, open Settings > Personalisation > Taskbar > Other system tray icons and switch on Transcript Audio. On Windows 10, use Settings > Personalisation > Taskbar > Select which icons appear on the taskbar.
- Not there at all? Open Transcript Audio from the Start menu.
You can always stop a recording with the keyboard shortcut, or from the recording bar in the app window.
